Labiaplasty, also called a labia reduction surgery or vaginal rejuvenation is a method that reduces the appearance of excessive labia tissue of the female genitalia for a more rejuvenated appearance. This typically includes the clitoral hood, labia majora and labia minora.
Labia Minora Plasty is the removal of unwanted tissue of the smaller inner vaginal lips. Women may request this procedure to change elongated labia since puberty, after pregnancy or with aging or to fix an uneven appearance. Common complaints include minor irritation with activity to excess moisture retention, hygiene problems, visibility through clothing and swimsuits, discomfort during intercourse, and major self-esteem problems.

Labiaplasty Q & A
What Is Labiaplasty?
Labiaplasty is a cosmetic procedure that improves the look of external female genitalia. The areas addressed in this surgery generally include the labia majora, the labia minora and the hood of the clitoris. It is not unusual for the labia minora to grow darker, larger, and start to sag after pregnancy or for many other reasons. The excess skin can be removed in a labiaplasty, resulting in a much cleaner, younger and more symmetrical look.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Labiaplasty?
Women who are unhappy with the look of their outer labia lips are often excellent candidates for this type of procedure. In some cases, an enlarged inner or outer labia can cause difficulty with wearing tight clothing, pain during sex, and discomfort at other times as well.
Women who have suffered from any of these symptoms may be good candidates for the surgery. There is no specific age limit regarding labiaplasty. However, women who are in excellent overall physical condition are generally good candidates. Patients who have health problems can be evaluated on a case-by-case basis to determine whether they are a good candidate for labiaplasty.
What Is the Recovery Process With Labiaplasty?
The recovery process can vary slightly from one patient to the next. Most people are able to go back to work after only a few days and can fully resume all normal activity, including sexual intercourse, after four to six weeks. Immediately after the procedure, discomfort and pain can be alleviated with prescription pain medication or over-the-counter pain medication. Ice packs can generally be used to help alleviate swelling, inflammation and pain after a labiaplasty. Labiaplasty does not usually require general anesthesia. Therefore, since local anesthesia is commonly used in the procedure, the recovery process is often much easier than it would be otherwise.
